Big Lunch Story

Time for Change Big Lunch Event

Year 7 bring community together with 'Big Lunch' social action event

As part of Co-op Academies Trust’s Time for Change programme, our Year 7 students organised a Big Lunch event.

Bringing together members of the local community, the student-led event celebrated connection and kindness. Supported by our Academy Community Pioneer, our pupils took charge of planning, organising and inviting guests.

Attendees included staff, parents, the local PCSO and representatives from the Co-op Wibsey store.

The Big Lunch created a welcoming space where attendees could sit down together, share a meal and enjoy meaningful conversation. It marked a small but powerful act of positive social change showing how young people can unite communities through simple gestures of inclusion.

Throughout the project, students developed key skills in teamwork, problem solving, planning and communication, all while displaying Co-op’s core values of self-help, solidarity and community.

Academy Community Pioneer, Mrs Tanvir, said: “It was a great experience supporting the Big Lunch. Students worked so hard on this project and it was great seeing ideas come to life.

“I witnessed first hand the students becoming more confident whilst organising this project, they should feel proud of the time and effort they all put into creating a fantastic Time for Change and Big Lunch project.”
